City Public Safety Citizen's Academy
There are citizen's in our city who come in contact with the Atlantic
City Police Department, Atlantic City Fire Department and the Atlantic
City Emergency Services Division. Few citizen's have in-depth knowledge
of the rules, regulations and laws that govern these various divisions.
The Atlantic City Public Safety Citizen's Academy provides a unique insight
into the structure and limitations of authority within each division.
Familiarity with the basic principles of these departments is the key
to better understanding the actions and reactions of the public safety
employee within the community.
The Atlantic City Public Safety Citizen's Academy improves the communication
process by coactive and proactive communication, which enhances the relationship
between the community and the Atlantic City Police Department, the Atlantic
City Fire Department and the Emergency Services Division.
The Atlantic City Public Safety Citizen's Academy achieves the following
objectives:
· Provides community members with an understanding of the powers
and limitations imposed by law on police, fire, and emergency services
personnel.
· Provides community members with additional knowledge that assists
the citizen in forming objective opinions about the policies of the
various divisions within the police dept., fire dept., and emergency
services division.
· Develops objective and informed members of the community who will
assist in dispelling rumors, while advancing the truth about the police
dept., fire dept., and emergency services division policy and procedure.
· Corrects misperceptions and myths held by some community members
about the roles, responsibilities and activities of police dept.,
fire dept., and emergency services division.
· Provides a forum for the exchange of information between public
safety personnel and community members.
