The Municipal Court System
The Municipal Courts in New Jersey have responsibilty for motor vehicle, parking, minor criminal offenses, municipal ordinance offenses, and other offenses such as fish and game violations. Minicipal Courts have limited jurisdiction typically only involving cases that occur within that municipality.
It is at the Municipal Court level that most people come into contact with the justice system whether a defendant, victim or as a witness to a crime.
More serious criminal cases are handled in the Superior Court located in Mayslanding. However they start out as complaints filed in the Municipal Court and are tranferred to the county.
Payments may be made by mail by sending a check or money order to the court. DO NOT SEND CASH. All checks or money orders should be made out to the "Atlantic City Municpal Court".
