Budget Unit

                  As its name implies, the primary mission of the Budget Unit is the preparation of the Department’s yearly budget.  This document is constantly scrutinized because funds must be utilized in strict accordance with Federal, State and local laws.

            An additional responsibility of the Budget Office is research and preparation of grant applications.  This past year, the Budget Office received and/or applied for the following grants:


·        $619,000.00 Federal grant received for 25 police civilians

·        $100,000.00 Cops Universal Federal grant received for 20 officers

·        $200,000.00 Safe and Secure Federal Pass-through Grant for 7 officers

·        VAWA grant for $5,000.00

·        Police Community Partnership grant for $600,000.00

·        Police Community Partnership Federal Pass-through Grant $600,000.00

·        ABC grant to combat underage drinking

·        GREAT program grant

·        COPS redeployment program grant

·        Brigantine homes overtime grant

·        Academy grant

·        Applied for Federal grant for bulletproof vests $ 44,000.00


            The Budget Office is tasked with the administration of all forfeiture funds, and acts as the liaison between the Police Department and State, County and Federal authorities related to these funds.  The Office prepares audits of all such funds to ensure compliance with applicable County and Federal regulations.

            An added function of the Budget Office is to serve as the Department’s Quartermaster.  As such, it is responsible for inventory control, maintenance of supply records, payroll distribution and uniform disbursement.  During 2000, the Supply Unit of the Budget Office obtained new uniforms for the Emergency Response Team, new coats for the K-9 and Cycle Officers and rain gear for all personnel.
