Forensic Investigations Unit
The Forensic
Investigations Unit assists the various other investigative units in the
Police Department by processing (photographing and documenting) crime scenes,
recovering evidence (fingerprints, blood and weapons) and “booking” persons
arrested for crimes.
The Forensic Investigations Unit is also responsible for processing citizen applications for gun ownership and for registering released sex offenders under the State’s “Megan’s Law”.
Members of the Forensic Investigations Unit responded to over 1,000 cases in 2000, processing in excess of 2,100 arrested persons (and in so doing identifying persons who, under aliases, were wanted on 600 additional arrest warrants).
