GENERAL INVESTIGATIONS SECTION

            The General Investigations Section (“GIS”) is responsible for the investigation of serious and non-serious criminal complaints as well as crimes against people and property.  It is also responsible for investigating cases of unexplained death.

            The GIS is comprised of the Warrant Unit, the Police Aide Program, the Pawn Unit, the Technical Agency Computer Operator, the Arson Unit, the Domestic Violence Response Team, the Casino Investigations Unit, the Juvenile Bureau, the Forensic Investigations Unit.  Collectively, GIS Units have exceeded the national clearance average of 47 % for violent crimes and 19 % for property crimes. 

            Cooperation between the Police Department and the Atlantic County Major Crimes Squad continued during 2000.  Atlantic City experienced 9 homicides in 2000.  When a homicide occurs in the City, GIS detectives are assigned to the case and work directly with the Major Crimes Squad in a spirit of cooperation.
