OPERATIONAL DIVISIONS

The Operational Divisions of the Atlantic City Police Department consist of the Uniformed Patrol, the Community Policing Unit and the Traffic Bureau.

Uniformed Patrol

Officers assigned to the Uniformed Patrol Section represent over half of the total number of sworn officers in the Police Department.  These officers are assigned to patrol one of six specific districts, encompassing all geographic areas of the city.

Patrol officers employ various types of patrol methods, including foot patrol, police cruiser (automobile), bicycle, motorcycle and K-9 units.

The Patrol Section works on a continuing 24-hour-per-day/7 day-per-week basis, with the shifts separated into 3, eight-hour tours-of-duty.  Each shift is recognized by its phonetic designation:

8AM - 4PM: ALPHA PLATOON

4PM - 12AM: BRAVO PLATOON

12AM - 8AM: CHARLIE PLATOO
