Pawn Unit

            The Pawn Unit is responsible for monitoring the 32 Pawn and Cash-for-Gold shops in Atlantic City and assuring that these establishments are run legally.  By monitoring (the approximately 300) daily Pawn/Gold shop transactions, the Pawn Unit recovered $250,000.00 in stolen property during 2000.

            Presently, members of the Pawn Unit are developing a computer program to aid in monitoring Pawn/Gold Shop transactions.  Such automation is expected to greatly enhance the success of this unit.
