Records & Evidence Section
The Records and Evidence Section is responsible for the intake, maintenance and distribution of all of the Police Department’s records as well as all evidence collected by the Department during the course of its varied duties.
During the past year, the Records Section received and/or processed
13,332 criminal cases, 207 requests for police reports, 268 individual criminal
record-checks, 73 record-checks for the Atlantic City Housing Authority, 97
record expungements, 127 petitions for expungement, 166 application for firearm
permits & identification cards; 533 discovery request for criminal cases,
128 discovery requests for civil litigation, 59 discovery requests for Domestic
Violence Court, 37 discovery requests for Conflict Court and 1,677 requests
regarding criminal file information from various municipal, county, state and
federal police agencies. The Records Section also received, processed
and filed 999 restraining orders, microfilmed 68,231 images from criminal cases
and processed and filed 14,661 money transactions from the above listed activities.

The Property and Evidence Section handled approximately 2,400 cases during 2000. In addition, they prepared confiscated and unclaimed property for City auction, processed and filed financial transactions for forfeitures for the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office ($89,497.73) Atlantic County Treasurer ($274,800.91) and for City auctions ($7,637.00).
