Atlantic City Police Internal Affairs Section
POLICY STATEMENT
The goal of the Atlantic City Police Internal Affairs Section is to insure that the integrity of the department is maintained through a system of internal discipline, where fairness and justice are assured by objective, impartial investigation, and review.
All complaints will be thoroughly investigated to its logical conclusion and you will be kept advised of the progress of the investigation. At the completion of the investigation, the Internal Affairs Section will recommend dispositions for each allegation, through the chain-of-command, to the Chief of Police. You will be notified in writing of the final disposition of the case.
The dispositions may include:
- Exonerated: The alleged incident did occur but the actions of the officer were justified,legal, and proper.
- Sustained: The investigation disclosed sufficient evidence to prove the allegation, and the actions of the officer violated a provision of the agency's rules and regulations or procedures.
- Not Sustained: The investigation failed to disclose sufficient evidence to clearly prove or disprove the allegation.
- Unfounded: The alleged incident did not occur.
If the charge(s) is sustained, you may be required to testify in a Departmental or Administrative Hearing.
