The Information Technology Section was established in May of 2000. This area of the Division carries the responsibility of designing, building, and maintaining a wide area computer network and the software used on it. The Division utilizes an Office Suite of software for Word Processing, Email, Spreadsheets, presentations, and numerous custom databases. There are currently two Division web sites in operation, this site and an Intranet site that can only be accessed internally. The Intranet site contains Personnel Information, Intelligence Information, and all Division Orders. The Division utilizes a Records Management System for keeping all records of Criminal activity and Investigations. This system is fully integrated with the software being utilized in the City's Emergency Communications Center. The Info/Tech Section has also taken on the responsibility of training the entire Division in the use of all of this software. Over 12,000 man-hours of instruction has been given to Division personnel since January 2001. Training has been provided in the use of word processing, email, Internet browsers, NJ Criminal and MV Law, the Atlantic City Code, and photo processing software. We also produced an 80 page users manual for the Records Management System and trained all personnel in its usage. We are currently in the process of upgrading our Records System with full imaging capabilities to include documents, audio and video files and photos. All data that is being inputed into the system will soon be available in a fully integrated mapping and analysis program utilizing GIS technology. A project to build a permanent facility for training our personnel in computer usage has been completed. This facility is also being used by the Fire Division to train their personnel. Another recently completed endeavor allows for connection to the NCIC 2000 project which gives our officers and investigators access to the NCIC/SCIC information centers directly through our network. A project to computerize the scheduling of Police Division personnel is completed and should be operational in March 2003. The City's Fire and Emergency Communications Divisions may also take advantage of this software.
