Investigations
The Investigations Division is comprised of several sections and units whose primary responsibility is to investigate crimes and prepare cases for prosecution by the county Prosecutor. Detectives are usually assigned cases that originate from patrol officers in the field. Patrol officers prepare preliminary reports that are assigned to detectives for more in-depth follow-up. Detectives can also generate investigations from their own observations or information received from the public.
Criminal Investigations Section
The Criminal Investigations Section consists of Detectives who investigate crimes in order to provide information that will cause a successful prosecution of perpetrators of criminal offenses through quality investigations. Detectives also assist in community problem solving through timely identification of emerging crime patterns and by developing crime prevention initiatives in conjunction with other units within the police department.

This collaborative unit investigates individuals or groups who threaten, finance, aid and conspire in unlawful acts that cause harm resulting in death. Detectives in this unit work under the direction of the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office in order to conduct investigations, arrest, and prosecute offenders.
