ATLANTIC CITY NJ, OCTOBER 22, 2001- A memorial service of remembrance was held on Sunday morning October 14 2001, in honor of the memory of Police Officer Peter F. Egnor. The officer was killed in the line of duty during the early morning hours of October 14, 1981 after a lengthy vehicle chase and shootout, which wound throughout the streets of Atlantic City, and ended after Egnor was shot on the Albany Avenue Bridge.

Friends, Family, law enforcement personnel and local elected leaders gathered at the bridge, which has since been renamed after the fallen officer. A memorial Service was held there and marked the twentieth anniversary since the officer's death. A Mass was later observed at the St. Nicholas of Tolentine R.C. Church, followed by a reception at the Irish Pub in Atlantic City.

Many local leaders such as Congressman Frank LoBiondo, State Senator William Gormley, and Mayor James Whelan joined the assembly of present and retired Law Enforcement Officers at the Egnor Bridge, during the early morning ceremony in which a wreath was placed near Egnors commemorative plaque.
