Community Policing Uniformed Patrol Sections A quick response to 9-1-1 calls for service and high visibility neighborhood patrols are the primary duties tasked to the Uniformed Patrol Sections. Patrol is often referred to as the "backbone" of the police department, handling more than 150,000 calls for emergency and routine police service each year. Uniformed Patrol is a function of the Field Operations Bureau and is organized by time into three shifts covering day, evening and nights. Patrol officers are assigned to marked patrol vehicles, on foot or on bicycle throughout the various areas of the City and are the first responders to calls for citizen assistance. Although assigned to general patrol duties, many officers are trained in various technical police skills, enabling them to provide the best possible level of service to our citizens and the 34 million annual visitors to our City. Each officer is linked to our communications center by radio and a number of the marked patrol units have been equipped with mobile data terminals. The Uniformed Patrol Sections are quartered are the newly rebuilt Municipal Complex at 1100 North Albany Avenue.
