SERVICES DIVISION
The Services Division consists of units such as the Records & Evidence, Community Relations, Personnel and Special Employment Sections. Each
Section is responsible for various support functions within the police department.
The Records & Evidence section is responsible for the intake, maintenance and distribution of all of the Police Departments records as well as all evidence collected during the course of its duties.
The Community Relations Unit responds to public calls for assistance such as demonstrations at abortion clinics, Community Watch programs, Crime Prevention, and labor related strike picketing.
The unit is also responsible for teaching the D.A.R.E. drug safety awareness program throughout the school year. This program is taught to several hundred students in Atlantic City’s eleven schools. Other programs are also participated in such as:
Mothers and Students Against Drunk Drivers (M.A.D.D./S.A.D.D.)
Student Career Days at local schools
G.R.E.A.T. (Gang reduction) Training
The Special Employment Section serves as a liaison to outside employers who wish to employ Police Officers for extra duties such as Traffic Control at Construction Sites. Officers are also hired to provide public safety presence at numerous special public events such as concerts, and conventions
The Police Personnel Unit maintains and ensures the Personnel and Medical files for both sworn and civilian department members. It is also tasked with keeping summaries of occupational injuries and illnesses for the department. The unit also conducts background investigations of prospective police and fire department candidates during Police & Fire Department hiring cycles.
