Investigations
The Investigations Division is comprised of several sections and units whose
primary responsibility is to investigate crimes and prepare cases for
prosecution by the county Prosecutor. Detectives are usually assigned cases that
originate from patrol officers in the field. Patrol officers prepare preliminary
reports that are assigned to detectives for more in-depth follow-up. Detectives
can also generate investigations from their own observations or information
received from the public.
Deputy Chief Henry White commands the Investigations Division of the Atlantic
City Police Department. This includes Criminal Investigations, the Juvenile
Section, Pawn Investigations, Major Crimes, and the Forensic Section.
Criminal Investigations Section
The Criminal Investigations Section consists of Detectives who investigate
crimes in order to provide information that will cause a successful prosecution
of perpetrators of criminal offenses through quality investigations. Detectives
also assist in community problem solving through timely identification of
emerging crime patterns and by developing crime prevention initiatives in
conjunction with other units within the police department.
